History

The Green Carpet Players were named on a whim by Amy Porter.  We were playing a local gig outside the church and were told that our band couldn’t just be called Redeemer Church of Knoxville.  So, when Amy was asked what we should be called, she replied, “How about the Green Carpet Players?”, because of the signature retro green carpet in Redeemer’s sanctuary.  And the name stuck.

We loved hymns; nothing compares to their narration of the gospel.  We were a part of the retuned-hymns movement that puts new music to old lyrics.  Sometimes we kept the familiar melody and got creative with the arrangement.  Sometimes we wrote brand new hymns.  And often we wrote new music to lyrics that are hundreds of years old.  In all this, our goal was to create art that benefits the church and is simply good music to enjoy.
